“Now We Are Six”

When I was one,
I had just begun.
When I was two,
I was nearly new.
When I was three,
I was hardly me.
When I was four,
I was not much more.
When I was five,
I was just alive.
But now I am six,
I’m as clever as clever.
So I think I’ll be six
now and forever.
(A.A. Milne)

One of my favorite poems for one of my favorite boys on the occasion of his sixth birthday.

At six he wears a button down shirt everyday buttoned right to the collar, dress pants or orange jeans and suspenders.  He rocks a fedora and a black wool coat with bright orange hi-top converse.  He had his own style and it is so much better than mine.

He is soft and sensitive and sweet.  He trains in the living room running back and forth and back and forth.  We call him the puppy.  He rides on two wheels, kills it on his scooter and is learning to snowboard.  He wears an orange belt in karate and learned his new kata in one afternoon of hard work.  He is conscientious and his standards are high.

His cuddles are above average.

Happy birthday little boy, I love you more than all the stars.
