saying goodbye to the captain

The captain and I have been close this last week.  We’ve travelled in cars, cuddled on the couch and spent one very late night staying up well past all good reason, regretting none of it the next day.  It didn’t take long for the captain to grow on me.  In fact I felt I knew him before we ever met.  Once I had the chance to see his face in person, to look past the superficial and see all the tiny parts he’s made of it was intimidating to say the least.  Had I rushed in to this relationship?  Were there too many things to put in order to make this work?  Would I ever get to see the full realization of this dream?

Seven days.  Seven days of diligent work.  Seven days of wishing I’d just gone out and gotten new glasses when mine broke in the fall.  Seven days of stressing about tiny choices and even tinier stitches and now we’re here.  My love affair with the Captain may never really end but today he moves on to someone else’s hands.  Will she love him the way I do? I know she will.  Will she see the care that went into his creation?  For sure.  Will it fuel a little ST:TNG marathon at her house too?  No doubt.

Happy Birthday to one of the thousands of women who watched Next Generation for more than just the impressive examples of intergalactic diplomacy.

Long live the Captain.
